2/25/14: More Wandering

Dan's information on how to get to the lower parts of the Undead Burg provided a long romp into unknown places.  I was able to get to the lower parts, kill some dogs and then get ambushed by thieves a few times.  None of this way very difficult because I am apparently over leveled and was able to kill the thieves in two hits.  Normally fighting three things at once is really bad for me, but it was ok.  I was also able to get the bottom level and then rolled through the dogs.  Eventually I made it to the Capra Demon, who managed to kill me a few times before I was able to figure out how to keep it at bay.  With that done, and at least part of the lower levels explored, I headed back up to the top to see what I could find.  Next stop the catacombs.

I've been in the catacombs for 2 days now, and have made it "pretty" deep.  I passed through one white wall and managed to beat another one of those gimped lightning throwing mini-bosses.  I ran into some laughing guy next to a switch who I was pretty sure was going to backstab me.  Fortunately he didn't and I think I just need to keep going "down" in the catacombs until I find the bell.  The last thing I did was fall through a hole in the floor near the lightning guy and almost immediately get killed by a black knight with great tracking and an axe.

Oh, and I also wandered down to Old Londo, walked right by some hollows and failed to do any damage to a ghost before I got the fuck out of there.

  1. The bell's not through the Catacombs! You should be able to beat the boss of the Catacombs, given your level, but the other Bell of Awakening is through the Depths, accessed from the lower Undead Burg.

Also, you might want to try and find Vamos, the skeletal blacksmith. If you take the highest bridge across the open area of the Catacombs, you'll enter a circular chamber with a staircase spiraling around and the down the inside of the space. If you go lower, the stairs come to an abrupt end. You can step off the end here and fall to a couple other ledges on your way to the bottom. Drop though the hole at the bottom, and you'll enter the area with Vamos. He'll also open open the wall so that you can get to the area below where you fought the black knight.

Watch out for the wheel-riding skeletons in this area, they hit hard and dodging is much better than using a shield. They're relatively fragile, however, and don't reassemble like the other skeletons in that area. If you go left, you'll head back towards where you fought the Black Knight (he'll probably jump down and come after you) and you should be able to climb up back to where you fought the Titanite Demon. If you go right, you'll head towards the white light that leads to the area boss.

  2. I'm pretty sure I beat the boss already. It was some strange guy with a mask who created copies of himself, right? I took him down in one shot only drinking Estus once (by the way my Estus is +1). Then I wandered into the Tomb of the Giants. Despite holding onto the Skeleton Lantern it was still dark as hell and I fell to my death.

  3. Well done. I think I got Pinwheel on my first try, but I summoned help.

None of the necromancers dropped a skull lantern, so I've let the Tomb of the Giants be for now.
